Public invited to hear water management official at Committee of the Islands annual meeting Keynote speaker Daniel DeLisi This year’s annual meeting of the Committee of the Islands will feature Daniel DeLisi , of the South Florida Water Management District , as its keynote speaker . He will deliver a presentation titled , " How We Will Put the Caloosahatchee Estuaries Back on the Path to Recovery . " The public is invited to the meeting , which will be held in the Sanibel Community House at 9 : 00 AM on Thursday , March 22 . The Community House is located at 2173 Periwinkle Way . Mr . DeLisi , who was appointed by Governor Scott to the SFWMD Governing Board in 2011 , represents Lee , Collier , Hendry and Charlotte counties . He also serves as Vice Chair of the Board’s Project and Lands Committee . The SFWMD oversees the quality and distribution of water throughout southFlorida . Its special relevance to Sanibel , particularly in recent years , concerns the flow of water from Lake Okeechobee and its impact on the quality of water in our coastal area . Mr . DeLisi , a graduate of Brandeis University , also holds a Masters Degree in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . After opening remarks and Mr . DeLisi’s keynote address , the audience will have an opportunity ask questions . There will then be a short break followed by a business meeting for members of the Committee of the Islands and election of members to its Board of Directors . The Committee of the Islands was founded in 1975 by those who helped incorporate Sanibel as an independent , self - governing city within Lee County .
