Committees

These are the committees defined within Committee of the Islands. Click the view members link or the committee name to see a list of committee members. City Governance Committee
The City Governance Committee monitors discussion and makes recommendations on City Council and Planning Commission actions that affect the environment, government or quality of life on the island.
Community Relations Committee
The Community Outreach Committee communicates, and seeks support for, the Committee of the Islands' activities and positions to all island residents.
Endorsements Committee
The Endorsements Committee works to identify quality candidates for local elections and appointments, to present to the Committee of the Islands' board for consideration for endorsement.
Environment Committee
The Environment Committee will assess and monitor issues that could have harmful affects on our islands’ natural environment and the quality of inland and surrounding coastal waters. We will proactively educate and advocate for sound solutions to protect, when threatened, human health and the islands’ important natural resources which help define our sanctuary island way of life.
Land Use Policy Committee
The Land Use Planning Committee monitors activities of the Sanibel Planning Department, Planning Commission, and City Council which may affect land use policy. Its mission is to encourage the adoption of policies which are consistent with the Sanibel Plan and Vision Statement.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee facilitates communication between members and the Board of Directors and encourages all island residents who support the Committee of the Islands' mission to support the organization.
Nominating Committee
The nominating committee is appointed annually and is comprised of no fewer than five or more than seven members, two of whom are to be non-board members. The committee identifies and recommends to the board, for its approval and submission to the membership at the annual meeting, candidates to replace directors whose terms are expiring.
Technology Committee
The Technology Committee ensures that digital tools are available to assist the organization and its committees in accomplishing their objectives.
Transportation Committee
The objective of the Transportation Committee is to help shape opinions and actions on issues that affect congestion on Sanibel. The current scope of the committee is vehicular congestion and shared-use paths.
